Our featured client is the largest natural gas company in Japan, serving over 9.4 million customers through its core gas business. Anticipating the deregulation of the gas market in Japan, our client diversified its business by forming multiple subsidiaries to pursue several related industries, such as power generation, LNG shipping, and natural gas production. To support the newly deregulated market, our client needed to provide a Gas Pipeline Management System (GPMS) to allow shippers to schedule the delivery of gas over its network. The system needed to be flexible enough to adapt quickly to changes in the market and seize the opportunities for new services. Our client called upon the knowledge and expertise of Trellis Energy to implement just such a reliable solution.
At the project’s inception, the biggest challenge came from the lack of clarity on what actual form the market would take; requirements changed quickly as regulatory requirements and business objectives evolved and changed over time. We diligently worked with our client to identify the initial most critical features and functionality, as well as their long-term business goals all while working through an obvious language and cultural barrier between our two teams.
With limited visibility into the true scope of the project, we identified the key short-term features and quickly configured the Trellis platform to meet those short-term needs. Our ultimate solution also provided the flexibility to meet future demands in an unpredictable and ever evolving marketplace.
